HOW GSIS BROKE MY MOTHER-IN-LAW’S HEART…

It’s a little disappointing hearing my mother-in-law cry last night. The last time I heard her cry was 4 months ago and that was when my father-in-law died. She is too much stressed lately due to the trouble that the Government Service Insurance System or GSIS has been causing her. Thus, I have decided to write this blog entry and perhaps post prior correspondence in the hope that someone at GSIS will get to read it. I also hope that this will reach our politicians for immediate action.

My late father-in-law has been a government employee and an officer for more than 32 years the same as my mother-in-law. He works with DENR in Mati, Davao Oriental while my mother-in-law now works at the province’s state college after her stint with DENR. Both their fathers worked with the government as well until they have retired. Thus, both of them come from a family of public servants.

The issue stems when my father-in-law died last October 2009, my mother-in-law was expecting to at least receive an amount from GSIS being a form of insurance policy for government employees. When she filed her claims for surviving spouse, she was turned down by GSIS in Tagum City on the premise that she is not qualified as a surviving spouse or dependent because she is still gainfully employed.

It was mentioned by GSIS that they have released a prior memo sometime September 2009 stating that survivors who are gainfully employed and are not totally dependent on the deceased member are not qualified to claim for whatever benefit due effective March 2010. This memo was not circulated to all government employees and my mother-in-law‘s application was dated October 2009.

When she informed us about this, we all tried to research online and found some materials both from the GSIS website and from legal forums. My concern now is that the affectivity date is set for March 2010 and so any application for claim of benefits should still be accommodated. Right? If not, GSIS should have at least informed members that their heirs should be unemployed if they were to die soon!

More so, my brother-in-law who is 19 years old should at least qualify as a dependent child and therefore, in the midst of my mother-in-law being disqualified due to her employment status, claims for benefits should at least be granted. I was just wondering why both my mother-in-law and my brother-in-law were disqualifed. Thus, rendering the benefits and contributions of my father-in-law useless.

I was disappointed. I finish my studies from the income that my parents get from the government being government employees. This is the very reason why when I graduated from college, I immediately took and passed the Career Service Professional eligibility exam. Now, I get to think if all effort of paying my taxes and social security are worth it or if I am just enriching corrupt officials in doing so?

Imagine having to serve your country for more than 32 years and imagine having to pay your monthly contributions to GSIS or SSS for almost 32 years only for nothing. Three years before your retirement age of 65, you get to pass away leaving nothing to your heirs because your wife is still working or that your kids are 19 years old up. Thus, the government gets all your benefits back including interest!

Tsk. We thought of going to DENR to ask if we can avail of getting the premiums paid or all the monthly contributions plus interest as most legal forums would tell that this is allowed but to no avail. We were not even able to claim for the death and burial benefits of my father-in-law. Now, we just want our mother-in-law to retire since most of us are working and GSIS would definitely disqualify claims for her.

I am a little frustrated now so I write this. I am planning to send a letter to Imbestigador and XXX in the hope that they will get to investigate such cruelty done by GSIS to its members. I am thinking as well of not paying my social security since I am the same age as my wife and she is working too. I might pass away and end up with my family not getting any because my wife is not a dependent of mine! Tsk!

To this end, I ask our politicians to act on this as we have thousands if not millions of government employees out there who pay their monthly contributions religiously in the hope that they will have something for their family someday. What GSIS is doing is stealing money from them by asking them to pay and putting out a memo that their survivors should be unemployed or they will get none!

Last Christmas at an ATM booth, I heard an old lady complaining that her GSIS survivorship pension is delayed. Others may fear speaking about this but my mother-in-law was able to voiced out her sentiments in a recent conference in Manila with fellow government employees. She was promised by a GSIS officer that they will do something about it. I just wonder if GSIS is indeed doing something about it. Hmp!

Now I cannot blame others in their speculations that GSIS took down its database system to be able to prevent audits an steal more as the government changes administration. Thus, corrupt people can steal money without fear of being traced due to corrupted data reports. As some would say, it’s election time and it’s the best time to steal and invest people’s contributions on campaigns! Tsk!

APPLE iPHONE 3GS: COPING WITH YOUR iPHONE SCRATCHES AND DENTS!

02022010. Just today at exactly 3PM as I was about to enter the embassy to get my visa and passport, my iPhone 3GS accidentally fell on the floor. I was shocked and froze for almost a minute before I picked it up. I thought I was just dreaming so I told myself to wake up. I was hoping that the leather flip-case from MACMOSPHERE did its job as expected since I got it to protect my expensive phone from such scenario. Tsk. I prayed so hard and even blamed myself for not buying a full body cover!

Well, the glass screen was fine but the plastic back cover at the lower right corner near the microphone area got a little dent or scratch so to speak. It is not that visible but since I am an OC and a perfectionist, I am not sure if I can still live thinking everyday that I scratched my iPhone and it is not perfect anymore! Note that I even had to buy an expensive clothe and a leather case for it. I even put it in a safe place when I am home to prevent it from dust and from accidental fall. Tsk!

Well, tomorrow would be my iPhone’s 1st monthsary and so far, it ain’t flawless anymore! I dented it! I got it last January 3, 2010 with so much excitement since it is the start of getting myself hooked back to gadgets and away from drinking sprees and night parties. As I was heading home, I immediately read forums of how other owners felt when they first scratched their iPhones. I even had to google for faceplate and back cover replacements and key words pointing on how I can undo the dent!

Anyway, I found some materials that I wish to share hoping that others might drop their inputs. As for me, I have read various forums telling me that I should instead MOVE ON and ACCEPT the fact that things do fall and get dented. You can only BEST PROTECT an iPhone if you do not remove it from its box. Hehehe. Well, that is true indeed! Thus, I realized that perhaps, the dent was made to teach me a lesson on being careful at all times.

Well, at least I was able to put an identity to my iPhone through the dent and scratches. I can easily say now which iPhone is mine by checking on the dent and scratches. Hehehe! I need not to think anymore of buying a faceplate replacement nor selling it so I can get a new one, I will just have to accept things. Tsk. Same as with life, we all need to move on and accept the fact that amidst imperfections and flaws, we need to stand up and do our job! No regrets as they say.

I just need to get a new shell case tomorrow to best protect it and hide the damage. Hehehe. In that way, the pain is minimize. Hehehe! Anyway, read on what I found on the net. Perhaps, some may find use in it! Just be sure not to blame me nor my source in case you get to break your iPhone than fix it! Hahaha. For me, it is easier to get on with the scratches and dents than with a dead iPhone 3GS. Hahaha! As they say, IF IT AIN’T BROKE, DON’T FIX IT!

iPhone 3G Replacement Housing Cover Repair Guide

Restore your Apple iPhone 3GS to its former glory with a new housing faceplate cover and give it a whole new face. You can use the following install instruction to replace your old housing faceplate.

(Note: This install instruction is only for reference, please consider whether you can do it. We do not hold any responsibility of damaging of this item and your own item due to wrong installation.)

Prepare

Tools required:

Small Screw Driver, Opening tool

Patience!

Step 1

Begin by removing the SIM tray, using the included SIM card removal tool (or a paperclip if you've lost the tool.)

Step 2

Holding your device on end you will notice two small screws on either side of the dock. These screws must be removed in order to open the case.

Step 3

Insert a small thin tool between the chrome ring and front panel glass directly above one of the screw holes. You will need to exert a small amount of pressure to separate the display from the back panel.

Step 4

Lift the panel up from the dock end being careful not to tear or break any ribbons connected near the other end.

Step 5

Unplug ribbons 1 and 2 by lifting them from the main board. Under ribbon 2 you will need to find and unclip ribbon 3, then carefully remove the display assembly.

Step 6

Remove the seven screws circled in red. Note: One screw is located under the DO NOT REMOVE sticker :)

Step 7

Unplug ribbon 4.

Step 8

Llift the mother board out taking note of the camera which is still connected to the underside of the board. You will need to unplug the ribbon circled in red.

Step 9

Place the mother board to the side.

Step 10

Use the attached tab to pull up on the battery, there is a mild adhesive on the back side, so it will take a bit of force.

Step 11

Remove the screw circled in red.

Step 12

Carefully remove the camera.

Step 13

Remove the nine screws circled in red.

Step 14

Remove the headphone jack and attached flex cable.

Step 15

Remove the speaker assembly which also contains the dock connector, antennae and home button as well.

Step 16

Remove the 2 screws circled in red.

Step 17

Place the vibrator assembly to the side.

Step 18 - Back to the Front Half

Remove the 2 screws circled in red. You will find 3 screws on the opposite side which must be removed as well.

Step 19

Lift the LCD free from the front panel glass.

Step 20 - Finished

I cannot write anymore about this. Much has been said both online, in prints and via television. I feel sorry for the loss of lives due to conflicts brought about by the overwhelming clamor for power and territory of the few. We need to put a stop to all these senseless deaths. We need to act now!

NEWS UPDATE:

AMPATUAN SURRENDERS, TO BE FLOWN TO MANILA
Ampatuan Jr., accompanied by Jesus Dureza, presidential adviser on Mindanao, arrived in General Santos at 12:25 p.m., clad in polo-shirt, long pants, black jacket and his face covered with a turban. He was handed over to Justice Secretary Agnes Devanadera who would bring the local official to Manila onboard a private plane.

MASSACRE WITNESS SURFACES, TAGS AMPATUAN
Witness said that all the slain women were raped. The 100 armed men never asked why, they just followed orders from Andal Ampatuan, Jr. He mentioned that they were not able to finish the job of burying all the dead and their vehicles because soldiers were coming. The witness said that their group do have connections with military in reference to the heinous crime committed.

WITNESS: 'WE JUST FOLLOWED ORDERS'
A man who says he was a witness to Monday's massacre in the southern Philippines has told Al Jazeera how he was ordered to kill members of a rival political clan - including women and children - and to make sure no evidence was left behind.

I need not to shout more! I need not to name names and put too much detail as well because each article would narrate the same story. The PHOTOS & VIDEOS below should tell us all what really happened on that fateful day plus the videos I have posted in this blog entry. I am for what is right. I write for justice and peace. I go for the truth!

This incident should be a wake-up call for all of us that Mindanao is also a part of the Philippines. This massacre in Maguindanao is a clear sign of the failure of our government to put law, justice and order in a land rich with culture, resources and people! This has to be addressed and now is the time for the government to work!

How come ERAP was arrested the day the government instructed PNP to arrest him even if there were NO DIRECT EVIDENCE that he was indeed responsible for the crime accused to him by other equally-corrupt politicians?

How come some ordinary people can get arrested just by mere suspicion and others are not because they are powerful and favored by the government? The Law should be fair and it should be applied to all regardless of social status!

Well, that’s what is topping the headlines nowadays aside from his recent victory to Miguel Cotto. I wonder if this is just a mere publicity gimmick for Manny Pacquiao’s upcoming movie – WAPAKMAN or another form of political harassment perhaps?

This is just a typical lifestyle given to rich celebrities and politicians. Now that Manny Pacquiao is about to be a congressman, he is just trying to adjust to the lifestyle. Hehehe. More so, we cannot blame him if ladies are flocking him. He’s a star!

Anyway, I got this image from a link posted on my Twitter account by another user and I thought of sharing it to seek the truth about the said SMS. I am sure that Jinkee Pacquiao is not used to showbiz life yet but Manny Pacquiao has to secure her first.

I also saw a YOUTUBE video from the internet featured in another blog PINOY AMBISYOSO that I thought of sharing as well showing him driving a car with a lady said to be Krista Ranillo, the young starlet being linked to him. All these may just be coincidence perhaps but I do hope that Manny Pacquiao will get to value his marriage as well.

Jinkee Pacquiao has been with him for years since he started small until now. They have kids as well. If this is a case of INFIDELITY, I just hope that this be resolved soon because we do not want to see all the glory being put to waste!

True indeed that this JINKEE-MANNY-KRISTA is the Philippines’ Most Expensive Love Triangle and this will definitely cost Manny Pacquiao more than the value of his lifetime achievements and cash prizes combined – his family. Goodluck!

Sa kabila ng malaking tagumpay ni Manny Pacquiao sa laban nito kay Miguel Cotto ng Puerto Rico, hindi pa rin nakaligtas sa intriga ang Pambansang Kamao. Hanggang ngayon kasi ay hindi mamatay-matay ang isyu na diumano'y may espesyal na relasyon sa pagitan ni Manny at ng sexy actress na si Krista Ranillo, lalo na nga't napabalita pang nasa Las Vegas din ang aktres, kasama ang pamilya nito, para manood ng laban ni Pacquiao.

Kinumpirma ng ilang sources ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) na nasa Las Vegas nga si Krista at ang pamilya nito. In fact, sa PEP Alerts ay ibinalita na sa Luxor Hotel nag-check-in ang pamilya Ranillo. Doon din daw sa naturang hotel naka-check-in si Manny at ang kanyang entourage.

Kahapon, November 15, sa The Buzz ay isa sa naging paksa ng usapin ang naturang intriga. Matatandaang unang na-link kay Manny ang isa pang sexy actress na si Ara Mina, na nakatambal niya sa pelikulang Anak ng Kumander (2008). Matapos ngang putaktihin ng intriga noon si Ara, si Krista naman ang sumunod na ikinakabit sa pangalan ni Manny.

KRISTA IN MANNY'S LIFE.

Nagsimulang maiugnay ang pangalan ni Krista kay Manny nang magsama ang dalawa para sa pelikulang Wapakman, na entry sa Metro Manila Manila Film Festival ngayong Disyembre. Parang ganito rin ang naging sitwasyon nina Manny at Ara noong 2007 nang magsama sila sa pelikula hanggang sa maintriga. Ngunit mariing idinenay ni Ara ang pagkakaroon ng relasyon umano kay Manny.

Ayon sa mga nag-oobserba, pawang publicity lang daw para sa pelikula ang naglalabasang balita tungkol kina Ara, Krista, at Manny. Ngunit hindi pa rin tumigil ang daloy ng intriga. Hanggang sa sunud-sunod na balita na ang lumabas.

September 2009, lumabas sa kolum ni Ricky Lo sa Philippine Star ang balitang nakitang magkasama sa flight papuntang Hong Kong at pabalik ng Pilipinas sina Manny at Krista.

Ayon kay Ricky Lo, umamin sa kanya si Krista na totoong nakita niya si Pacquiao sa Hong Kong. Pero aksidente lang daw ang pagkikitang iyon sa isang mall. Patunay pa ng aktres, ang mga kaibigang kasama niya roon. Nagkasabay lang daw si Manny at ang grupo ni Krista sa eroplano sa kanilang pagbabalik-bansa. Nasa economy section daw ang aktres at nasa business class naman daw si Manny. Paglapag ng Manila, niyaya pa raw sila ni Manny na sumama sa kanila sa VIP line. Pero tumanggi raw si Krista.

Sunod naman daw, in-offer ni Manny ang kanyang sasakyan upang sabay na silang pumunta sa isang birthday party. Sa pagkakataong ito raw nakita silang magkasama ni Manny. At ayon kay Krista, "I have nothing to hide. I'm not guilty of anything."

Sa kolum naman sa isang tabloid ng talent manager-columnist na si Lolit Solis ay lumabas ang intrigang sa panahon ng pag-eensayo ni Pacquiao sa Baguio ay naroon din diumano si Krista, na sweet raw ang pakikitungo kay Manny.

Sa kolum naman ni Mario Bautista, maging sa Ondoy relief distribution ni Manny ay naroon din at nakaalalay si Krista, at naroon din ang ama nitong si Mat Ranillo III.

At ngayon nga ay patuloy sa paglaki ang intriga, dahil habang nasa Las Vegas si Pacquiao ay naroon din daw si Krista, kasama ang pamilya nito. Kinumpirma ng manager ng aktres na si Arnold Vegafria na nasa Las Vegas nga ang alaga niya, ngunit hindi nito tinukoy ang pakay ng aktres doon. Tingin ng manager ni Krista, ang turingan ng dalawa ay magkaibigan lang.

GINA'S INTRIGUING FACEBOOK ENTRY.

Lalo pang tumindi ang espekulasyon ng marami nang ilantad ng The Buzz ang isang malamang mensahe ng director-actress na si Gina Alajar sa kanyang Facebook status na tila nag-uugnay sa boxing champ na si Manny Pacquiao at kay Krista Ranillo.

Ayon sa Facebook account ni Gina, "If I am Jinkee Pacquiao I will not give up Manny... Krista Ranillo is not at all worth it!!!"

Ngayon, ano naman kaya ang pinanggagalingan ng biglang pagbubulgar ni Gina sa sinasabing ugnayan nina Manny at Krista?

Taong 2001 nang maghiwalay sina Gina at ang asawa nitong si Michael de Mesa. At dito nga ay naugnay ang pangalan ni Krista. Sa kolum ni Emy Abuan sa Pilipino Star Ngayon noong 2002, sa presscon ng isang pelikula, hiningan si Krista ng linaw tungkol sa napabalitang relasyon daw nito kay Michael de Mesa, pero kaagad namang pinabulaanan ng aktres ang intriga.

Tahimik naman ang kampo ng boyfriend ni Krista na si Direk Dominic Zapata. Ayon naman sa ilang sources, hiwalay na raw ang direktor at ang aktres.

Upang mabigyang linaw at matuldukan na ang lahat ng espekulasyon, sinubukang kontakin ng The Buzz si Krista. Ngunit walang sagot mula sa kampo ng aktres.

JINKEE'S TEXT MESSAGE TO KRIS.

Pagkatapos ng VTR news na ito ay nagbigay ng komento tungkol sa isyu ang The Buzz hosts na sina Boy Abunda, Ruffa Gutierrez, at Kris Aquino.

Ayon kay Ruffa, na ang parents na sina Eddie Gutierrez at Annabelle Rama ay nasa Las Vegas para sa laban ni Pacquiao, nandoon daw talaga si Krista with her family. Pero hindi niya raw sigurado kung saang hotel ito nag-i-stay, pero siguro raw ay sa Luxor Hotel.

Bumilib daw si Ruffa sa asawa ni Manny na si Jinkee dahil, ayon sa kuwento ng kanyang Mommy, sa kabila ng intriga ay ginampanan pa rin ni Jinkee ang pagiging isang "dutiful wife" na pinagsisilbihan si Manny.

Isang text message naman mula kay Jinkee ang natanggap ni Kris. Pinabasa niya pa ito kina Boy at Ruffa. Ayon kay Kris, shocking daw talaga ang laman ng text na ito kaya hindi puwedeng sabihin on air. Kinumusta pa raw niya si Jinkee kung okay daw ito at ang text back nito ay mag-uusap daw silang mag-asawa after the fight with Cotto.

Binantaan naman ni Kris sina Boy at Ruffa na ang pinabasa niyang text ay between the three of them lang at kung kumalat daw ito ay alam na ng mga tao kung sino ang nagkalat.

Hihintayin na lamang daw nila ang pagbabalik sa bansa nina Manny at Jinkee upang ang mga ito ang magbigay-linaw tungkol sa intrigang ito. Bukas din daw ang programa nila para sa paliwanag ni Krista.

Ayon naman sa ilang sources ng PEP na nasa Las Vegas, nagkaroon daw ng matinding away sina Manny at Jinkee bago ang laban ng Pambasang Kamao. Nalaman daw kasi ni Jinkee na pumunta si Manny sa hotel room ni Krista noong gabi ng November 13 (U.S. time).

Hindi rin daw nagpa-interview si Jinkee sa media. Nagkulong lang daw ang misis ni Pacquiao sa VIP room ng Mandalay Bay.

JACQUE BERMEJO: FACEBOOK USERS AT WAR!

Just today, FACEBOOK users from all over the Philippines flooded with comments another user named JACQUELINE BERMEJO for what seem to be a very insensitive, irresponsible, offensive and careless statement she posted on the social network site’s wall. I found out about this via JULIUS BABAO’s re-tweet.

As of writing, there are 1,086 comments from users coming from various locations and all walks of life expressing their objections and feedbacks about her controversial statement and bad attitude towards the victims of the epic flooding in Manila that left thousands homeless and hundreds dead.

While both OFWs abroad and Filipinos here mourn over this great tragedy, this lady from DUBAI thought differently. As all of us unite to provide help and support, she herself took an unbelievable stand on the matter by tagging victims as sinners who deserves whatever happened to them.

Anyway, WHO IS JACQUE BERMEJO? Well, I got some information as well from various online sources and I am posting them here to perhaps put a better reference on the issue and on the person plus put justice to to the case. What happened is not a joke and so her statement is not a joke as well! It’s cruel!

IS SHE FOR REAL? Perhaps, this may be a case of IDENTITY THEFT that someone with deep hatred on her made up all these or perhaps, she really is for real and was not in a good mood when she posted her statement. I do hope that she get to speak, explain and do a public apology. At any rate, damage has been done already!

It’s 7:22AM and I just finished watching GMA 7’s UNANG HIRIT. It was on the segment ONE ON ONE WITH EGAN that I saw how a presidential son and a current congressman be grilled on a national TV for an alleged undeclared beach house in the US and for some unexplained surge in income and assets in his annual SALN or Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth. Well, he came with no lawyer and he seem to have been unprepared... AS FAR AS I AM CONCERN (well, his statement usually starts with it).

Well, Cong. Juan Miguel Arroyo or publicly known as Mikey Arroyo indeed looked a little lousy explaining his side because he refused to name people who were his co-incorporators in the alleged corporation where that beach house belongs to. More so, he publicly stated that it is a known scheme for politicians to declare corporations and put ownership of assets in them to make filing easier. He as well explained that the surge in his net worth came from gifts when he married and when he ran for election.

Well, Mareng Winnie or Winnie Monsod was really good at grilling him but in fairness, it seems that the presidential son was not given enough time to answer each question because every time he opens his mouth to answer back, Mareng Winnie would fire another question and it seem a little funny. It is good that Pareng Egan or Arnold Clavio was able to equalize the interview session though it is quite visible how the congressman got a bit sarcastic. He should have brought a lawyer with him!

Mikey Arroyo got almost irritated. As a viewer, I saw in him a typical individual carelessly answering back to elders when caught red-handed with no more alibi. He was impatiently and sarcastically telling the hosts if it is okay now for him to answer the questions because every time he attempts to, he gets another question. Hahaha.

Well, I think that there are some anomalies indeed that we have to investigate but perhaps we also need to put things in the proper forum as educated people and not mere put justice in a trial by publicity. As for Mikey Arroyo, he should have went on air with a lawyer with him because what he did awhile ago was a media suicide. Instead oh clearing himself, he exposed himself more to scrutiny and doubts.

Well, he seems to have not practiced last night in answering such questions shelled by the hosts. He looked as if a student grilled in the Principal’s Office. As how Mikey stated his side, he has challenged the public that if they suspect any malice and fault in his SALN, then they better sue him so he can face them legally. Anyway. that is fine since I am sure that he has the entire government especially the administration to back him up. Besides, he is still his mother’s eldest son to protect!

But then again, this call is a little futile now because it will just end up being junked same as the other past scandals that we have seen filed against other known politicians of bad reputations and with the Presidential Family as well. It is sad but then we cannot blame the public if indeed we see that justice is blind especially when the crime is committed by the individuals in power.

Remember the NBN-ZTE scandal, HELLO GARCI scandal, the FERTILIZER scandal and the 1M DOLLAR DINNER issue that all were just forgotten after the government asked its unprepared troops to do a suicide mission in the lair of the ABU SAYYAF only to be massacred and end up shifting the public attention from the real issues? Thanks to the soldiers who risked their lives to make a new headline and save the administration.

Well, I am just sharing my opinion. I still have high hopes for the government though. I just wish that the MEDIA will somehow give a fair venue for everyone both GOOD and EVIL. This will make us all judge each issue fairly and with justice. I also pray that all GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS should as well serve the people well as per their mandate. By doing so, we can all focus on nation-building rather than going in circles from one scandal after another.

Besides, PUBLIC SERVANTS should SERVE THE PUBLIC and not the other way around. Right?

NEWS: CLUB EMPLOYEE STABBED DEAD NEAR HOME IN QC.

Just today, I got an SMS from a friend regarding a sad news received. A floor manager of a known club along Quezon Avenue in Quezon City was stabbed to death for what the police rules as a robbery and homicide. It was even aired in a TV news.

I know the victim way back as we use to see him around the club where we usually would hang around with friends before. At some point, we do chat with him while waiting for our regular floor manager or FM. He is a very refined person so to speak.

It is sad that someone who is just working for a living is killed this way. Everyday he would work all night long fighting off fatigue for his family and it is very much unfortunate that all his life’s hard labor would end up in such a heinous crime.

I share with the grief and sorrow of this person’s family, relatives and friends. I know that justice will be served soon. Whether this may have been related to his work or just a plain case of usual street crime, justice has to be served! No more. No less!

Texting or calling while driving is not only fatal and dangerous to you and your passengers but to other people as well who may fall victims. We cannot just say sorry afterwards especially when such mistake costs a life of another being.

What makes it tragic is the fact that children are orphaned and people are left behind by their loved ones because some tend to be careless and insensitive about safety and responsible driving. I used to be one but not beginning today!

As I was opening my Yahoo Messenger early today, I got a dialog box of latest news updates. One of the headlines came with a photo of US First Lady Michelle Obama and then follows an article about the lady wearing shorts and all the comments about such.

For me, that is not an issue for as long as she does not end up buying a $20,000 shorts from the taxpayer coffers and wearing it in a state visit. Besides, the lady and her daughter were on their way to the Grand Canyon for a family weekend!

We need not to vote whether she should wear shorts or what because as an individual, she also has the right to wear anything that is suitable for the weather, for her convenience and for the activity she engages in.

She need no permission from us nor even from her husband, President Barack Obama on what clothes to wear because as a woman with good reputation, she knows what to wear and when to wear such an apparel.

Besides, would you want the world to vote first on what you should wear before get to wear one? Perhaps because we have not been used to seeing royalties in their informal attires but still we need to respect as well that royalties have rights too!

For Taxi Riders in Manila

PLEASE BEWARE!

Just to give you a warning, avoid riding cabs with names like Wallis, Romcat & Lucky8. All these taxis are owned by just one family and most of its drivers are muggers, rapists or simply swindlers. According to the driver who is the source of this information, he used to work for the said company but lasted for only 2 days since he couldn't bear the idea of "manggagantso" .

He said there is no single unit of this company that doesn't cheat. Each and every car that they own has "batingting" that is used to manipulate the taxi meter.

Further, the driver also informed that the owners hire anyone even if the person has a criminal record. As a matter of fact, the owners are fully aware of their drivers' misconduct yet they turn a blind-eye on it coz what matters most to them is the boundary of their drivers that's to be given to them at the end of the day.

He also said that prior to leaving, he found out that one of his co-drivers mugged his passenger and even touched her private parts. When the passenger filed a legal complaint about it, naturally the driver got apprehended but was released because of bail.

Immediately the next day, the very same criminal was hired back by their company and was out driving his unit again.

He said you will be able to recognize the taxi units of this company even at night since their taxi logos on top of their roof have a unique lighting. Instead of the usual yellow light on the "taxi" sign, theirs are red.

Prior to writing this, there was a research about the taxi company and it was found out that they have been featured in one of the shows in GMA-7 (Imbestigador) . Indeed they have proven that the drivers of this company are swindlers and muggers.

If you care about your family, friends, co-workers, classmates And other people close to you, pass this information along. We can never tell who their next victim is.

I am a tough guy and since childhood, I have not feared of anyone in terms of expression and in terms of defending myself from people who intends to inflict harm and offenses especially when my position holds the truth and that it sides with what is right and good. I am a fighter since birth and I never back out in a fight.

I remember when I was in Grade 2 that I was being mocked by a batch mate who was twice my size in terms of built and height. I was cornered at the back of the gym with this fat kid along with his 2 classmates famous for being fearless bullies. They have bullied almost everyone but not me. So they took me as their next target.

The place was filled with stockpiles of old school chairs and old lumbers. I have nowhere to run as well because the place was then gated and the only way I could get out is being blocked by the bullies. I stood and waited for them. They tried making fun at me by curses and teasing. We were kids.

I asked why I am being bullied. They just laughed and laughed. Then the biggest kid started pushing me just as how kids would start a fight. I was almost swept away. I tried to balance myself and pushed back but with less effect because I was too small for his match. They laughed once again.

Although, I was thin and small then while he was too big for me, I stood still. I prepared myself. What came next after the pushing was punching. I was told repeatedly by my grandfather before that in a fight, the first strike should come from my foe no matter what. I held my fist and did nothing but wait.

In the real world, this is a little hard to accept for me as a kid then. I was thinking why I had to be punched first before I can punch back. Perhaps because I was being taught then that fighting should be a thing of last resort and it should only come as a defense. So I had to control myself and my wish of getting even by these bullies.

As a result, I was punched once in my shoulder really hard. Kids way back then were less violent. Almost it is rare that kids would punch their enemies in the head nor they would use any weapon to inflict fatal offenses because all of us are afraid then of wounding a fellow student and even leaving a black eye which can cause an instant dismissal from the school. So the chest, the back and even the arms were perfect spots then.

So as my arm muscles ached due to the strong punch I just received, I gathered my energy to punch back. It was my time to fight. I was almost crying when I got my fist ready and gave a strong blow in his arm where a scar from an immunization was visible that I used it as my target.

I gave him not one but series of jabs and punches mimicking my idol then – Fernando Poe, Jr. who punches like an automatic rifle. I was punching and at the same time looking at his face. He was motionless as I was making his arm a punching bag. His 2 classmates were in a state of shock as well as they never thought I would fight back.

After 10 to 20 punches in his arm, my tears fell but I was standing still and looking at him straight in his eyes. I was quiet. Suddenly, his eyes turned red and tears fell as well. Just before I was about to apologize, he cried like hell yelling and asking for his mother. He was threatening me that I will be reported to his teachers.

The 2 other boys fled the scene and soon ran to their teacher to report me assaulting their classmate. Soon, the teacher asked me to explain and in the end, I was vindicated from all the accusations. Besides, I was the one being bullied and cornered. I just acted to defend myself after being punched by a kid twice my size.

While at the Guidance Office, the fat boy could not look at me in the eye nor can he mock me afterwards. He thought I would fear him same as his other bully victims that I would not fight back but he was wrong because he found himself a match in me. I gave him an instant karma that day he thought of bullying me.

The news broke and soon I was being cheered by bully victims. I was lucky that day by making them realize that they have found their match in me because I stood strong and fearless not because I was tough but because I did not started the fight – I just defended myself fearless amidst their number and their size.

From that day on, I was never bullied. I sometimes played the bully but I was never bullied as a kid in school. Outside, I met some who were really evil bullies but still, I got the reputation of being a strong-willed and hard-to-beat person that defined who I am right now – a fighter.

For almost 21 years until now, I have taken that lesson in life that requires each and every one of us to successfully battle out the fear we have inside us. For as long as you know that you are right and that you know that what you intend to perform is something that is not violating someone’s rights, you need to proceed.

The real victory comes to those who try to triumph over uneven fights of life – to those who conquer the highest mountain and deepest sea amidst uncertainties and dangers. The reality of life is filled with success stories of underdogs making it big because of they have tried breaking off their limits as underdogs… battling one’s fear.

WHY A HUSBAND NEEDS TO BE A WIFE SOMETIMES…

It’s past midnight already! I woke up today just before lunch or perhaps 12 hours ago just to do our past week’s laundry. It took me almost 12 hours to get everything done in 6 batches separating the white clothes comprising of my son’s school uniforms, the dark colored, light colored, undergarments, towels plus the heavy ones – blankets. I tried rushing out the task but I had in-between breaks because I had to do some harvesting with FARM TOWN and had a short nap at around 6PM because of fatigue. Thus, I used my entire Saturday doing the laundry!

I used to do this every weekend or at some point, early Friday so I can get a pass to go out and hang out with friends on a Friday night. I just thought of volunteering since I have realized how hard it can be to sit all day inside the laundry room waiting for the washing machine to finish all the soaking before you get to use your muscles to wash and rinse them clean. Don’t forget the last effort to rinse using fabric softener. Thus, if I get to tire out with a 210lbs of body, what more with my wife!

Now, it is almost midnight. I missed all the shows I wanted to watch like Imbestigador and XXX but then again I am happy that for the entire day I was able to give my wife a time-off from all the household chores and play FARM TOWN the entire day along with my POKER PRO son who is getting so addicted now with POKER. Hahaha. At least, I was able to do something worthwhile today since I have sinned last night drinking late with my friends and going home past midnight drunk. Well, it’s TGIF!!!

Here I am, waiting for my wife to serve me a PANCIT CANTON as I blog and watch as well SPORTS UNLIMITED. You see, even in a small task as doing the laundry, you get to see some lessons worth noting. Every batch that I get to finish, I never look forward to ending the last. Instead, I look forward to having to rinse the last clothe for each batch to avoid exhausting my patience. Thus, I have learned once again that PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE. Hahaha.

More so, I have realized that INDEED IT IS HARD TO BE A WIFE! Just as I was doing all the laundry work while my son and wife plays online games, I felt all the guilt. Imagine the nights that we as husbands would party all night long just because it’s TGIF without thinking that our wives are home tending to our kids and doing all the chores. In their inferior physical properties compared to ours, they are able to achieve more while we are away from home.

Thus, as they were all laughing awhile ago and enjoying their games, I was taking my own KARMA with me washing more than a hundred clothes. Now, I know how it feels and I know that I have to do my own share as well of the sacrifices and hardships more than working at the office to pay the bills and driving them to school and to office daily. I need to do more.

To close, sometimes IT PAYS FOR HUSBANDS TO BE WIVES even for a day or two. Perhaps, that would bring some real changes and a genuine realization that we need to do more and make a difference as husbands and as fathers. I know some may say I am a HOUSEBAND in the making or an UNDERDOG to my wife but if that’s what it takes for me to show more love to my family… then so be it!

A KID'S PORTRAIT OF A FAMILY

Just minutes ago, I asked my good friend Elmer for a copy of this simple drawing that his 5-year old daughter made for his dad. Elmer is in Europe right now for a business trip so perhaps it was being "homesick" that made him use his baby girl's drawing as his avatar for his Yahoo Messenger. I liked the drawing so I thought of using it as a blog entry and forever have this masterpiece posted online as memoirs.

In a 5-year old girl's perspective, this portrait of her family made perhaps after school in a scratch paper is priceless. Zoe's concept of a family consisting of her Daddy Elmer and Mommy San-San and her baby brother Tristan is so strong and full of love and happiness. Notice the four happy faces she had put on her drawing and how she cared for each of them by even dressing them appropriately including each a pair of shoes.

I have my own collection as well of my son's early drawings since his 1st year until today that I regularly organize and have them book-binded for my own keeping. I know how my son treasures us as his parents and family the same way as how Zoe does for her family. In a simple drawing, it makes us dads and moms realize how our kids value family and how they long for us in terms of love, care, attention and appreciation and how it is but apt that we deliver what is due.

The image above is not just a drawing but a documentation of a genuine love of a family made visible in a toddler's artwork - a portrait of a love and family. Thanks Zoe!

PHILIPPINE POLITICS AND ITS GENEOLOGY

Note: This article below was derived from an email received a long time ago. Similar posts are found as well on some forum sites so I give credit to the original author who remains unnamed until now. Althought I cannot be certain on the veracity of the facts presented and how the article linked prominent political clans, tycoons, celebrities and icons, I still appreciate the writeup. Thus, I am sharing it for your reference.

In 1898, Emilio Aguinaldo declared the Philippines an independent and sovereign state and became this nation's first president. A century plus three years later, his cousin, Gloria M. Arroyo (through Escolastica Romero of Cavite City who married into the Macapagal family of Pampanga) rose to the same position when Joseph “Erap” Ejercito Estrada was toppled from power through the event known as People Power II. As it happened, Erap, too, was Gloria's relative (Aguinaldo, Erap, and Gloria had common ancestors from Cavite City). In fact, in a complicated and Byzantine manner, almost all of our former leaders were related to one another, in one way or the other. Allow me to extrapolate.

Emilio Aguinaldo's first cousin's, General Baldomero Aguinaldo, great-grandson was Cesar E.A. Virata, the first and only Prime Minster of the Republic of the Philippines.

The Virata family, through marriage, is connected with the Acuña family. One Acuña married a scion of the Roxas family. The product of this marriage was former President Manuel A. Roxas, whose son Gerry Roxas was a former Senator and whose grandson, Mar Araneta Roxas was a Trade and Industry secretary and currently a Senator of the Republic. Mar Roxas’ mother is Judy Araneta-Roxas whose brother, George, is married to the 1st Miss International, Stella Marquez of Colombia.

President Manuel Roxas had a paramour, Juanita McIlvain. One of the granddaughters of Pres. Roxas and Ms. McIlvain was 1973 Miss Universe Margarita "Margie" Moran.

President Manuel Roxas' wife, Trinidad de Leon (a Miss Philippines-Carnival Queen), was the daughter of former Senator Ceferino de Leon. Sen. De Leon's brother, Jose, married Dona Narcisa "Sisang" Buencamino, one of the most successful movie magnates in her time. Narcisa's first cousin's son was Philip Buencamino, who married Nene Quezon, daughter of President Manuel Luis Quezon.

Further, another scion of the Roxas family was Margarita Roxas, whose marriage to Antonio de Ayala produced Trinidad de Ayala. Trinidad later married Jacobo Zobel and started the legendary Zobel De Ayala family.

Some of the minor branches of the Zobel de Ayala family married into the other aristocratic families of Manila. The Aranetas, Ayalas, Elizaldes, Prietos, and more. Through the Roxas family's connection with the Aranetas, former Tourism Secretary and 1965 Miss International Gemma Cruz-Araneta is also related to Pres. Roxas since the grandmother of her husband Tonypet Araneta is Carmen Roxas Zaragoza (a cousin of President Roxas and a great aunt of Senator Mar Roxas).

It must also be remembered that Gemma Cruz's paternal great-grandmother was Dona Maria Rizal, the sister of our national hero, Jose P. Rizal.

Gemma Cruz's mother, Carmen, remarried Mr. Angel Nakpil, the nephew of Julio Nakpil, composer of a version of the Philippine National Anthem, who in turn was the husband of Gregoria De Jesus, the "Muse of the Katipunan."

Gregoria de Jesus was also the widow of Katipunan founder Andres Bonifacio. Similarly, two of Gemma's first cousins, Paz and Maria Cruz Banaad, married Bienvenido and Roberto Laurel, respectively, relatives of former Vice-President Salvador "Doy" Laurel, son of President Jose P. Laurel.

Three branches of the Araneta family further married presidential children: the first one being Juan Miguel Arroyo, whose mother is an Araneta. He married then Ms. Gloria M. Macapagal, daughter of President Diosdado Macapagal. Of course, she is now the country's Chief Executive. The second Araneta to marry a presidential child was Greggy Araneta who married Irene Romualdez Marcos, the youngest child of President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos and Miss Manila Imelda Romualdez. The Araneta-Marcos marriage further stretches our already complicated family connections because Congressman (and former Governor) Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. is married to New York educated lawyer Mary Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos who is a great grandniece of business tycoon J. Amado Araneta.

A maternal grandfather of Marcos, Don Fructuoso Edralin, was a cousin of Gen. Antonio Luna and his brother the Filipino national artist, Juan Luna. Juan Luna in turn married Paz Pardo de Tavera, of a rich and powerful Spanish-Filipino family.

Ferdinand Marcos' grandfather's sister, Crispina Marcos, married Hilario Valdez. Their daughter, Angela Valdez, married Ambassador Narciso Ramos, father of Fidel V. Ramos, also a President of the Republic. Narciso Ramos, after becoming a widower, married Alfonsita Lucero, whose father's maternal family, the Birondos of Argao, Cebu, married into the Almendras family of Cebu and Davao.

Alfonsita's fourth cousin, William Birondo, married Kukit Tecala, whose uncle, Pedro Tecala Sr., married Sofronia Almendras. Two of Sofronia's siblings married into political families. Her brother, Paulo Almendras, married Elisea Durano, the daughter of Demetrio Durano and progenitor of the Durano family that has ruled Danao and Sogod, Cebu for many years. A prominent member of the Durano family is Ace Durano, a former representative and now Tourism Secretary.

Another cousin of Alfonsita, Dr. Procopio Lucero, Jr., married Gliseria Gullas, sister of former Cebu Governor Jose Eduardo Gullas.

Still another fourth cousin of Alfonsita is Hilario Davide, Sr., whose son is Hilario G. Davide, Jr., a former Chief Justice of the Philippine Supreme Court.

A son of Paulo was former Senator Alejandro Almendras, whose marriage to a Bendigo of Davao City connected them to the ruling families of Davao: the Banggoys, Palma Gils, Lizadas, Nograleses and others. Speaker Prospero "Boy" Nograles from Davao City is a cousin. Senator Almendras' brother, Josefino, married Rosita Dimataga, the sister of Leonila Dimataga, who in turn was the wife of President Carlos P. Garcia.

Senator Almendras’ 2nd wife is Baby Rodriguez (daughter of Senate President Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez). Baby Rodriguez was married to Senator Genaro Magsaysay brother of President Ramon Magsaysay. It is interesting to note that Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez was the longest serving Senate President. He was unceremoniously unseated as Senate President in 1963 by Ferdinand Marcos by 1 vote. The last crucial vote for Marcos was the vote of Senator Almendras. Unbeknownst to Senator Almendras at that time, he was actually voting against a man who was to become his future father-in-law!!!

One of Sofronia Almendras’ sisters was married to an Osmeña, thus linking them to the family of President Sergio Osmeña. Most of President Osmeña's male descendants have become senator, governor, mayor, Representative, and councilor at various points in time and his family remains the premier political dynasty of Cebu: Tomas is the current mayor of Cebu City.

President Osmeña's half-sister was Doña Modesto Singson-Gaisano, the matriarch of the affluent Gaisano family of Cebu City. Modesta was a progeny of Don Pedro Gotiaoco, whose other descendants include Atty. Agusto Go, President of the University of Cebu and Honorary South Korean Consul; John Gokongwei, Jr., a great-grandson of Don Pedro Gotiaoco and the owner of Cebu Pacific, Robinson’s Mall, JG Summit, and many more; and the Sy-Gaisano family, who operate chains of shopping malls all over Visayas and Mindanao. A grandson of the brother of Don Pedro is Andrew Gotianun, who owns FILINVEST Group and East West Bank.

Imelda Romualdez's marriage to Marcos also brought in many famous personalities. Imelda’s daughter, Imee, a former member of the House of Representatives, married Tommy La’O Manotoc, whose mother was the sister of Chita La’O Lopez wife of Eugenio “Geny” Lopez (chairman of ABS-CBN and a man imprisoned by Marcos). This makes Tommy Manotoc the 1st cousin of Gabby Lopez (present head of ABS-CBN) thereby making Gabby Lopez the uncle of Borgy Marcos Manotoc. Another Lopez, Beaver, married Jackie Estrada, daughter of Pres. Erap Estrada. As stated earlier, Eugenio "Geny" Lopez was imprisoned by Marcos even if his uncle, Fernando Lopez (grandfather of Celine), was Marcos' Vice-President. Geny Lopez's cellmate in prison was Senator Sergio "Serge" Osmena III. Serge Osmena III is the husband of Bettina Lopez -- the granddaughter of Marcos' Vice President Fernando Lopez and the legitimate daughter of Albertito Lopez.

Imelda Romualdez Marcos’ niece, Marean Romualdez, daughter of her brother Gov. Alfredo Romualdez, married Thomas Pompidou, the grandson of the French President Georges Pompidou. Imelda’s nephew, Philip Romualdez (son of her other brother Ambassador Benjamin “Kokoy” Romualdez) is married to Sandy R. Prieto – chairman of the Philippine Inquirer.

Imelda's first cousin, House Speaker Daniel Romualdez, married Pacita Gueco of Tarlac. In an ironic twist of fate, Pacita Gueco happened to be the first cousin of Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. In fact, Imelda and Ninoy used to date after they were introduced to each other by Pacita Gueco-Romualdez.

Of course, the Aquinos themselves have allied with many political families, and a scion of the Aquino clan was Senator Eva Estrada Kalaw, one of the Philippines' very first female senators.

Ninoy's marriage to the heiress Corazon “Cory” Cojuanco also allied his family to another political dynasty. Corazon Aquino, after her husband's death in 1983, later became the country's first female Chief Executive. Her maternal family, the Sumulongs, have also produced several lawmakers. The Cojuangco family, on the other hand, owns one of the oldest-existing haciendas in the country today, and the Cojuangcos control many of the country's business enterprises. Cory Aquino’s eldest brother and the acknowledged patriarch of the clan, Don Pedro Cojuangco, is married to Sari Cacho-Cojuangco. Sari Cojuangco’s sister Maria Milagros Cacho-Araneta is the mother of Liza Araneta-Marcos (Bongbong Marcos’ wife). In fact, Liza Araneta-Marcos’ sister was one the personal secretaries of Cory Aquino when she was President!

Of course, Cory Aquino’s cousin, business tycoon Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco is widely acknowledged as Ferdinand Marcos’ most trusted man. In an ironic twist of fate, in the elections of 1992, Cory Aquino and her followers supported Fidel Ramos who was Marcos’ cousin while most Marcos loyalists supported Danding Cojuangco who was Cory Aquino’s cousin!

Danding Cojuangco’s son, Charlie, is the widower of former Miss Philippines, the late Rio Diaz, a sister of 1969 Miss Universe Gloria Diaz. Moreover, Danding Cojuangco’s sister, Isabel Cojuangco, is the widow of Emilio Aguinaldo Suntay – grandson and namesake of the 1st Philippine President!

Cory's niece, equestrienne Mikee Cojuangco, married Dodot Jaworski, son of basketball legend and Sen. Robert Jaworski. Senator Jaworski, on the other hand, married Susan Bautista Revilla, daughter of Sen. Ramon Revilla Sr., whose son Bong Revilla was a former governor and Senator. This connection, no doubt, extends this family tree to most of the country's movie personalities.

More than a blog, Speaking One’s Mind has always been special to me because this has been the only blog that I have created and put so much time in writing more about what I think.

Although it was never my first since I have my Ryan’s Photo Blog as my experimental blog, I have always planned of consolidating all these thoughts scattered in my blogs to form a journal of my life I called… The Little Pen.

I have developed numerous blogs both personal and career-oriented. I have blogs created through NING as well just for fun. At any rate, I have seen the importance of having a single journal that would act as a summation of points and ideas.

Thus, I post my very first blog entry for this blog.
